The Whitsunday Islands lie off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Queensland is a state of Australia, occupying the north eastern corner of the mainland continent. It is neighboured by the Northern Territory to the west, South Australia to the south west and New South Wales to the south. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean. The area was first colonised by Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders, who arrived between 40 000 and 65 000 years ago. Later, Queensland was made a British Crown Colony that was separated from New South Wales in 1859. Queensland is often nicknamed the Sunshine State, since it enjoys warm weather and a sizable portion of the state is in the tropics. Their geographic co-ordinates are 20°18S, 148°56E. The Whitsunday Islands are situated between Townsville in the north and Mackayin the south. They are 500 miles north of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland.

The Whitsunday Islands can be divided into four groups; The Whitsunday Group, the Lindeman Group, The Molle’s and the Northern Group

The Whitsunday Group includes; Bird Island, Black Island, Border Island, Cid Island, Cowrie Island, Deloraine Island, Dent Island, Dumbell Island, Dungarra Island, Esk Island, Fitzalan Island, Hamilton Island, Harold Island, Haslewood Island, Hayman Island, Henning Island, Hook Island, Ireby Island, Langford Island, Long Island, Lupton Island, Nicolson Island, Perseverance Island, Plum Pudding Island, Teague Island, Titan Island, Whitsunday Island, Wirrainbela Island, Workington Island

The Lindeman Group of islands is located at 20°27′S, 149°04′E. The islands in the Lindeman Group include; Baynham Island, Cornston Island, Gaibirra Island, Triangle Island, Keyser Island, Lindeman Island, Little Lindeman Island, Maher Island, Mansell Island, Pentecost Island, Seaforth Island, Shaw Island, Thomas Island, Volskow Island

The Molle’s group include; Daydream Island, Denman Island, Goat Island, Mid Molle Island, North Molle Island, Planton Island, South Molle Island

The Northern Group comprises; Armit Island, Double Cone Island, Eshelby Island, Gloucester Island, Grassy Island, Gumbrell Island, Olden Island, Rattray Island, Saddleback Island

English is spoken throughout the Whitsunday Islands. The currency is the Australian Dollar. Major credit cards are accepted widely.

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. And a divers paradise. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park protects 70% of the region fostering superb coral formations and an abundance of marine life. The tranquil and turquoise waters are home to whales, dolphins, turtles and manta rays. The Great Barrier Reef stretches nearly 1500 miles along the northeast coast of Australia; it is the largest structure on the planet built by living organisms. It can even be seen from outer space. Up close, however it is truly spectacular. New fish species are found in the Great Barrier area every year. There are approximately 4,000 molluscs and 350 hard, or reef-building, corals. One coral chunk the size of a basketball yielded 1,441 worms from 103 species. The Great Barrier Reef is comprised of more than 2,800 coral reefs. The carnival of colourful marine life that call it home provide some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world. Novice divers find it hard to describe the unforgettable encounter of seeing over a 100 fish per minute. Experienced divers will be moved by this ultimate experience.

Sunny tropical weather is almost guaranteed year round in the Whitsunday Islands. Avoid school holidays for off-peak periods. Yacht charters are cheaper and the Whitsunday Islands are not as crowded. At any time of year, there is usually enough wind for a pleasant sail.

Summer runs from December to March and is warm and humid with rain showers. Winter runs from June to September and is warm by day and cool at night. Trade winds usually blow slightly stronger from May to August. There is a risk of cyclones from February to March. Late September to early November are considered by some to be the best cruising weather in the Whitsunday Islands. The average daily temperature of is 27°C. January is the warmest month averaging 30°C and July the coolest month averaging 23°C. The water temperature remains a pleasant 23 – 27°C with the average year round water temperature being an inviting 24°C.

The months from October through to May are stinger season. Stingers are jellyfish. Jellyfish are the most common wildlife hazard in the area. There are many species of jellyfish in the area; the toxicity of their stings is just as varied. Jellyfish are a problem during stinger season when swimming is not advised at all. An encounter with one is very painful and can be life threatening. You may want to hire or buy a lycra suit to swim in if you plan to swim in the ocean during those months for safety reasons. A stinger suit is usually a full body lycra suit designed to prevent the effects of jellyfish. In recent years a major element in jellyfish injuries is the Irukandji jellyfish.

Tide will be a major factor in planning your sailing day. The tidal flow floods the area to the South, and ebbs to the North flowing around 3 knots. Where the islands are situated close together particularly at the Solway, Fitzallen and Hook Island passages, the tide flows at around 5 knots.

Each island has it’s own fringing reef system and you will need to use your eyes carefully when choosing your yacht anchorage. You should aim to anchor before 16.00 while the light is still perfectly OK and you will be able to avoid the coral reefs. Buoy markers and public moorings are located in sensitive areas in several locations around the islands in order to protect the coral. You will find them in on Hook Island, Hayman Island and Daydream Island. You are required to either pick up one of the many mooring balls or anchor outside of the reef markers.

Many yacht charter companies are based in Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine is situated about 10 milers inland from Airlie Beach. Flying times are a 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours 30 minutes from Brisbane and Sydney respectively. As Airlie Beach is located on a peninsula that stretches out to the Whitsunday passage, it is an ideal base. The colourful beach town is focused on serving the needs of the large number of travellers who gather there to embark on a long yacht charter or just a day sail. Airlie Beach provides many of the essential services for sailors. Shopping areas are open seven days a week for provisioning and there are plenty of dining and entertainment options as well.

Whitehaven Beach is one of the most outstanding sandscapes in the world. It is recognized as one of the best beaches in the world it will be a highlight of your sailing holiday. Whitehaven Beach is located on the eastern side of the uninhabited Whitsunday Island; the natural silica sand spans 3 miles. The sand is said to be 98% pure Silica, giving new meaning to sandy white beach. This is a popular spot and you are likely to encounter other yacht charters. There are no moorings at Whitehaven Beach but plenty of space for anchoring the yacht.

Hamilton Island is one of the Whitsunday Islands most well known resorts and offers a vast range of activities and facilities. Hamilton Island has a fifty-acre fauna park featuring kangaroos, koalas, goannas and other local wildlife. The harbour is very impressive and comprehensive: fuel, water, shipwright, electrical and engineering services and a large range of supplies are all available. It is a good idea to contact the harbourmaster a few days in advance to reserve a berth even though there are many berths for both large and smaller boats. The harbour is located on the western side of Hamilton Island and is relatively easy to navigate. With the largest island airport Hamilton Island is very convenient and some large yacht charter companies have their base on the island.

South Molle Island is just 5 miles from the mainland. Take the walking trail, which brings you through lush forests to hilltop lookouts to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding islands. The many trails will provide opportunities to ponder magnificent views. Anchor the yacht on the eastern side of the jetty being sure to leave enough room for the very large water taxis to manoeuvre.

Hook Island is home to a number of quite, sheltered bays that offer some relief from the multitude of yachts sailing the Whitsunday Islands. In the northern bays of Hook Island public moorings are provided and their use is encouraged. These moorings are there to protect the fantastic coral formations fringing the entire northern coast of Hook Island. Hook Island has some of the best sites in the Whitsunday Islands for snorkelling and diving.

Hayman Island is another popular spot for divers. Dolphin Point offers a great diversity of marine life including clown fish, mackerel and trevally with the occasional hammerhead shark. Blue Pearl Bay is very popular with yacht charter boats and again here is much marine life to see.

There are definitely many great reasons for you to go fishing for salmon in Alaska. Salmon is definitely one of the most popular fishes that sports fishermen choose to catch. Most of them are available from saltwater areas, but there are also some kinds of salmon that you could get to find in the freshwater regions. Salmon is definitely one of the prized fishes because of their abundance, fight and their great taste.

Of all the places that you could go salmon fishing, Alaska really stands out. There are so many great fishing spots that you could find in the place, and almost all of the fishing spots have great supply of salmon. Aside from the great fishing spots, you could also get to enjoy the spectacular views that you could get to find all over the place.

One of the best ways that you would be able to go fishing for salmon in Alaska is to book yourself at a local fishing charter. Depending on the kind of budget that you have, you could book for just a few hours. You could even book for more than a week. Some fishing chargers even provide lodging for people who choose to book for more than a day. They also have all the equipment that you need for your fishing trip, so you can leave your own equipment at home.

Another great thing about fishing charters is that they could provide you with guides, and boats. You would then be free to choose your fishing location. If you want to go fishing in the open seas, they can also lend you one of their captains for their boats. You would be free to do your fishing without any additional hassles.

If you are fishing on the freshwater areas, you should first get to know the typical reactions of the fishes to different fishing styles and techniques. Most salmon are very difficult to catch without using the bottom bouncing technique. You would have more chances of catching fishes like Coho and Sockeye. They usually feed on plankton.

There are definitely so many different kinds of salmon that you could catch in the waters of Alaska. When you go fishing for salmon in Alaska, you could choose from different varieties like king salmon, silver salmon, pink salmon, and red salmon. These fishes have different qualities, but they all offer great excitement.

If you are looking for a good-sized fish, you should definitely go fishing for king salmon. These fish weigh a lot compared to the other varieties. You can catch king salmon weighing around 20-70 pounds. If you want to have great excitement on your fishing trip though, you should go fishing for silver salmon. They are smaller than the other kinds of salmon, coming in at only about 8-14 pounds, but they really fight back hard.

When fishing for salmon in Alaska, you should definitely have the right tools with you. You can bring your own tools on your trips if you prefer, but you could also get to rent out the tools as well as different baits from the fishing charters. Fishing in Alaska is definitely a great way for you to get to enjoy your vacation.

Just about everyone now knows that we should be eating more fish, that fish contain important Omega 3 essential fatty acids and that these are extremely good for our health. So it’s important to consume more Omega 3. Salmon is a good source of fatty acids, but can you increase your intake of fatty acids by eating salmon?

There is no doubt that fish, and in particular oily fish, are very good sources of the essential fatty acids DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) known as the Omega3 fats. And there is also little doubt, following decades of research, that we are primarily deficient in our intake of these fats and that this leads to a range of health problems.

It is also known that increasing our intake of the Omega 3 fats will have a positive and beneficial impact on a wide range of health problems.

And as it is known that salmon are high in Omega 3 then the obvious conclusion would be that we should be eating salmon. Omega 3 is found in salmon without doubt, but maybe not in the salmon that you eat.

In wild salmon Omega 3 fatty acids are prevalent. Wild salmon eat many of the foods that help contribute to the presence of the essential fatty acids in their body.

But the reality for almost all of us is that we are not eating wild salmon. In fact the vast bulk of us are eating farmed salmon, and in farmed salmon Omega 3 is missing, or at least very low.

This is the unfortunate reality of today’s food supply chain. It is much cheaper and easier to farm salmon than it is to catch wild ones, particularly given that stocks of wild salmon are being depleted. So if you grow your own salmon, (and feed them with foods that do not contribute to the levels of essential fatty acids in their flesh) then this is the cheapest way to supply salmon to the market.

This is what happens, and this is why the chances are high that you are eating farmed salmon. Omega 3 levels in these fish is not of importance to the people who produce them, and so they are not fed the right foods.

So whilst it is true that there is plenty of Omega 3 in salmon, this only applies to the wild fish, not to the fish you may well have on your dinner plate tonight.

If this is the case what should you do? By far the most cost-effective way to introduce a daily dose of essential fatty acids to your diet to take high quality fish oil supplements. These are high in DHA and EPA and are easy to take daily.

You should note however that not all fish oil supplements are high quality.

So if you’re wondering about salmon and Omega 3 levels, there’s the answer. Eat a wild fish and you’re getting plenty of good fats. Eat one from the supermarket and chances are you are not.

Ships have been linked to Australian history through an umbilical cord. And so have been shipwrecks. Sail by the coasts of Australia, and you are sure to find one or two submerged hulks peeping out of the ocean surface. Sail by the North East coast, and chances are you will join the host of submerged hulks in the Great Barrier Reef, a magical stretch of ocean that has brought down many. There are many enchanting and romantic tales of such bravado, ill-fate, or sheer pig-headedness around such wrecks. This is one such.

Early in 20th century, 1911 to be precise, Magnetic Island was a rising centre of commerce. Doctor McCabe had a lavish paradise, aptly named Arcadia, where his rich female friends and acquaintances could visit. It was also the high time for bloomers and hooped skirts. The windy bay was precarious to the women’s modesty and Doctor McCabe, a dentist by profession, wanted to indulge the dignity of the women. He decided to install a breakwater, thus softening the windy ambience so threatening to his female friends. The idea was to tug along Moltke, an 827 ton vessel that had seen better days, which had ran aground on a reef at the northern end of Flinders Passage, between Townsville and Cape Bowling Green. Our doctor brought in a local bloke who claimed some expertise in explosives. They attached the Moltke to a tugboat, planning to blow the explosives on the Moltke when it was situated properly to act as a breakwater for Arcadia’s jetty, the prospective abode of our modest ladies. Our explosive bloke lit the fuse a little bit too soon, and seeing this tug-boat skipper cut the rope leaving Moltke on its own. To make virtue out of a situation gone hilariously wrong, the bloke and the doctor jump against an impressive firework, and they survive to ‘drill and fill another day’. Moltke went straight in the wrong place, and in shallow water. She did provide a sheltered anchorage for small crafts for many years, although she was no use as a breakwater for McCabe’s jetty, and the merry citizens of Magnetic Island still remember the day a dentist blew the Moltke away. Today, many ferry services carry tourists to a concrete ramp only hundred metres away from where the Moltke gloriously sank.

The stretches around the Great Barrier Reef is the graveyard of many more such glorious wreckages. A little further away from where Moltke sank, is the remains of another vessel called Maria – but it is another nice tale to be told another day. Lieutenant James Cook famously came along this route only, and discovered an island continent. In his train he brought criminal inmates, plundering gold prospectors, and today’s tourists. They come, they see, and they leave with enchanting tales of submerged hulks peeping out of historical times, shaking hands with a precarious present.

Magnetic Island lies off Townsville. It is well connected by ferries from the mainland. Unless you plan to stay in Townsville you may stay in nearby Cairns, Reef Palms which provides vacation rental special offers with Cairns vacation accommodation, Great Barrier Reef trip and rainforest tour.

Have you ever imagined yourself living in a place where you could see everyday the beauty of the ocean, seas, and enjoy swimming? There is truly a relaxing feeling when you see the natural beauty that God gave to us. Nonetheless to those who are living in the city, they can try the freshwater fish tanks in their home. You could also have selections from aquarium fish tanks which are common for tropical fish aquariums. You could browse selections of aquarium from www.aquasythe.com. They have discount fish tanks too if you feel that you are running of the budget or consider fish tanks for beginners, which is cheaper than the salt water aquariums. You may also check the tropical marine aquarium, which sounds pricy and the marine reef aquarium.

Those are some of the aquariums that you can find online which would really give your house a cool ambiance and other healthy benefits. Yes, you are reading it right. They are not just set of decorations at home. Whether it is a marine aquarium, salt water aquarium, marine fish tank, salt water reef tank and reef aquarium tank, the benefits are still the same. A stressful day and life will be reduced in large amounts. Just a small saltwater aquarium in your room will do or go for a large saltwater aquarium.

Whatever and wherever place that you feel that you think you will be comfortable seeing it, especially those times that you came from work and you feel stressed. As you sit on your couch and watch saltwater reef aquariums will relieve you from headaches. The varieties of salt water fish tanks and other complete fish tanks are sufficient, plus the added fish aquarium lights, aquarium filter systems or cheap aquarium filters will add up the overall coziness and a kind of attraction and relaxation that fishes give us.

The different variations and tanks mentioned on their site must be tied up with their appropriate kind of fishes according to the kind of tanks and aquariums you have at home. You can buy in salt water fish stores or in tropical fish stores. Of course, you should not forget their protein skimmer and other aquarium supply. They are all inevitable for the effects that it can give to one person. It serves as an emotional and mental therapy just simply watching the moves and dances of the fishes along with the aquarium lighting system or the reverse osmosis system.

There have been studies conducted that it is good for the overall environment of the house because the person who is hypertensive can be relaxed especially in decreasing blood fluctuation. You just have to take care and maintain their aquarium supplies, clean the fish aquarium filters regularly together with the peristaltic dosing pump. These are all inevitable to fish life despite that you have to maintain their expensive food, although you can buy cheap protein skimmer for them which will not affect at all the growth and life of the fishes. The important part of it is the metal halide ballast since they are not living in a real sea or ocean.

Due to the rising number of boat enthusiasts, the demand of mariner outboard motors is increasing these days. For quite some years American manufacturers like Chrysler, Mercury, and Johnson dominated this industry; until Honda and Suzuki came into picture. Today, the fierce competitor in this segment has resulted in new technologies being introduced rapidly.

You will see that there are multiple options available when you start to looking for outboard motors. You have to acknowledge the fact that your boat will not get far without the use of these motors.

Some people tend to opt for used outboard engines. However, buying a new one is always a safe bet. No doubt that you will be able to get a good bargain on the used outboard motor engines, however there is a risk factor involved in it. You will be paying more initially to buy brand new mariner outboard motors but then at least you know that it is coming with a guarantee or a warranty.

Needless to say, a comparison shopping is must before you go for them. If you do not do it then it might be very much possible that you end up paying more for the marine outboard motor. Even same products vary greatly between retailers and dealers. Another advantage of using new outboard engines is that it will give you confidence in the waterways.

You also need to break your engine properly, as it is very important to ensure a long engine life. If you get it wrong then it may cause damages to the bearings, piston rings, crankshafts etc. The bearing and grease can also be burred and chipped. You need to follow the guidelines given by your manufacturer. There is a certain minimum fuel requirement which you need to follow. Sometimes blending or octane requirements are not matched leading to a shorter engine life. The different grades of the engine oil affect the efficiency of carbon buildup on the rings as well as the piston. Thus, you need to take care of these simple things so as to ensure the smooth running of the engines. Get more info about Mariner Outboards and also Compare Outboard Motors.

Mariner outboard engines should not be kept ideal for longer durations. Also, you need not race the engine at full speed. The cooling water should be well circulated. Ideally, the speed should also be varied in every 15-20 minutes. Different companies are trying to achieve the domination by improving the reliability and efficiency.

Mariner outboard motors are mainly a product of Mercury Marine. These steering and propulsion system for boats consist of an engine, gearbox and propeller or jet drive. Mercury provides engines for private as well as commercial use. The engines focus more on the power rather than fuel efficacy. The mariner outboard size ranges from 2.5-350 HP. The company has got a wide range of products with them and you will surely find the one which you are looking for.

I use to go into tropical fish shops and marvel at the inhabitants – too frightened to ask the “expert” what all the different fish were and what you need to do to start…there is nothing like feeling small in front of an expert. Or worse still being told rubbish by a so called expert!

You really need to take your time researching questions to ask before getting to the store. There are lots of aquarium stores with staff that know very little about fish, so don’t base your decision on their advice alone…and make sure you take a close look at the fish yourself.

Below are some basic guidelines to consider when buying new fish:

• How big does the fish get?

• It may be small now, but will it eat all of them when it is adult?

• Is it a territorial – or will it be happier in a group?

• Will it get along with the current fish in your tank?

• Is your tank at the right temperature?

• Are your water conditions correct?

• Can you supply the right food for it?

Things to ask and look out for:

• Ask where the fish originally came from, the answer usually gives you an idea of how much the staff actually know!

• Does the store have a quarantine tank, if not be wary – or ask where there quarantine tank is. Generally this indicates that the fish are being cared for…

• Look at the aquarium plants, are they well kept?

• Ensure they catch the fish that you want, or better still catch it yourself!

Remember that the key to success is to keep your tank in balance giving happy, stress-free fish, so don’t be tempted into buying an incompatible species jut because you think it’s attractive – you’ll definitely regret it.

Don’t try to add too many fish to your tank at once – and always check that the fish are healthy before you buy them. Sometimes it can be difficult to be patient, particularly if the dealer has a species of fish that you really want but TAKE YOUR TIME!

Families really enjoy the different adventure opportunities that they can easily avail like snorkeling, whale watching and reef fishing as it is all a dream come true when you walk under the water and see the amazing fishes.

Speaking of the fishing world, Christmas Island is known as one of the best fishing places in Australia. It seems whenever people that love to fish meet, there is almost always bragging from one to another about the many big fish they caught while in this area. With such an abundance and variety of fish, there is something to fill anyone’s particular preference. White, sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a rich marine heritage that includes great ship wrecks make the place so beautiful.

The style of the boat you wish to charter in this place may vary depending on the type of fishing and the species of fish you are looking for. The price point will be affected by the geography i.e. the relative location to the fish and then the type or style of boat used to catch those fish.

Fishing Charters provide the luxury, amenities, equipment and professionally trained crew that can make a vacation a memorable one. Places which are teeming with fish; there are varieties to choose from, depending on the techniques to be used. Whether offshore, light tackle or shallow water bone fishing, with such hired arrangements one can remove the worry and hassle of finding a boat and provide the freedom to focus on one aspect. These offer seasonal slip rentals, in-door and out-door boat storage as well as a small ship store for tackle, bathing supplies, snacks, and fishing licenses.

The ranges of fishing styles and fish species that are available to you on such charters are many and varied. The facilities provide make it easy for you to choose the one that suits your pocket. But the best thing is that you can really enjoy all the water activities in whichever package you choose. These boats can normally accommodate a large number of people and many like to take their children along to introduce them to the sport of fishing. Poles and other equipment are available for the use of the children.

After a fun-filled day of fishing, the captain of the charter can direct you and your guests to one of the many popular restaurants in the area. You can then top the day by enjoying a delightful meal of oysters, blue crab or one of the many other entrees offered. Many family memories are created here and it can be a day that will always be remembered by the entire family and especially the new fisherman. Along with fishing the water activities really make your trips a memory that is hard to erase from the mind.

Saltwater Reef Aquariums The 30 Day Cycling Process

The importance of the thirty day cycling process cannot be understated; this is a vital part of establishing the ecosystem of each individual aquarium. The exact processes which are occurring during this cycle, however, are often not well explained, or else they may be a little too well explained and no one without a degree in organic chemistry can understand a word that is being spoken.

The truth is that while the nitrogen cycling process is a complex one it is not by any means impossible for the average citizen to understand. James Kostich of Aquatics Unlimited took the time to gather together a thorough, day-by-day explanation of the processes which are occurring during the thirty day cycling process in a manner that is simple for even the amateur aquarium designer to understand. This explanation can be found at http://www.bestfish.com/newtank3.html; however, the process is briefly summed up below.

If you are using fish to stimulate the cycling process take a great deal of care. While on the first day there is likely to be no ammonia in the tank, by the end of the third day these levels will have reached near toxicity. It is important to carefully monitor the fish during this crucial state; it may be even better to use an artificial source of ammonia to trigger this process. This will allow you to establish the proper balance in the tank without placing your aquatic friends at risk. While ammonia levels are beginning to rise first stage bacteria are beginning to grow.

By the fifth day these first stage bacteria will have begun to metabolize the ammonia into nitrite. This process will be well established by the end of the first week. At the end of the second week ammonia levels will be completely safe for the fish and nitrites will be at their peak. From here until approximately day 27 the second stage bacteria will be working to begin metabolizing the nitrite to nitrate. By day 30 ammonia and nitrite levels should be all but non-existent as nitrate levels reach their peak and the bacterium are well able to handle maintaining the chemical composition of the water.

This is an example of minimizing Mother Nature’s perfect filtration system in order to provide your fish with the perfect habitat. Hopefully you have chosen to artificially stimulate the cycling process so that it is well established prior to inserting your fish. If you have not it is very important that you keep a very close eye on them while the tank is undergoing its cycling process. The spikes in ammonia and nitrite levels can be severely harmful to fish if they are exposed to it for too great a period of time, and they will likely begin to show signs of distress during these periods of the cycling process. If this becomes severe their conditions can be aided by changing a portion of the water in order to dilute the concentration of these products. Saltwater Reef Aquariums

There are hundreds of great reasons to have your wedding ceremony on the beach, and twice the number of reasons as to why you may not be able to do it. Many couples dream of a destination or could not get you to the beach, so we are bringing the beach to you!” While sand and beautiful blue waters are what we love most about beaches, you don’t necessarily need either one to recreate a beach wedding indoors.

There are several components to an indoor or outdoor beach theme wedding, use these to turn your boring drab reception venue into a tropical paradise!

Color Scheme: Your color scheme will be the most vital aspect in creating an indoor beach theme. As you are reading this, I want you to visualize all of the different colors that come to mind when you think of the beach or a tropical destination. You are likely visualizing vibrant shades of blue, bright orange, coral pink, sandy white and rich fuchsia. Use those colors as the primary color palette for your wedding, including your bridesmaid dresses, favors and table center pieces. Beach weddings are fun and exotic – so you have more freedom to play with colors than you would in another wedding theme.

Décor: After you select a color palette, you will need to decide on your décor. Surprisingly enough a “beach theme” encompasses many things. You may want to try a Hawaiian theme, Caribbean, or Florida Keys – then there’s also a “tropical” beach theme versus a more ‘exotic’ theme. The two are not the same when you really think about it. For a Hawaiian theme, grass skirts, tiki torches, bamboo, leis and the sound of drums is very appropriate. In Caribbean wedding themes you will see more palm trees, vibrant colors and lots of flowers. Play on all the senses when creating your décor – your guests should see, feel, smell and “touch” the beach. You will accomplish this through your color palette, music selection, food offerings and wedding favors. Look for exotic flowers, exotic scented candles, fruit platters and foods specific to tropical or Caribbean destinations.

Food: Many reception halls require that you use their catering facilities, and more often than not – their menu selections are less than desirable for recreating an island wedding theme. If you are still in the planning stages, consider a venue that either doesn’t offer catering services in house (meaning you HAVE to have your own caterer) or one that has a Caribbean selection. A dinner selection full of authentic Caribbean cuisine will be a welcomed surprised for your guests. It doesn’t happen often, and for most people – they rarely have the opportunity to eat Caribbean food outside of the Islands. Your reception will be one talked about for years to come.

Again, if you can’t bring your guests to the Islands – bring the Islands to your guests! These are just a few tips to get you started – visit my website now for more valuable advice and information.

Red Sea Max 130D

The Red Sea Max 130D replaces the original 130 and, as the name suggests, holds around 130 litres of water. It features a long list of improvements over the original 130 and despite some minor annoyances it remains a solid, stylish tank that works well.

These tanks are designed with simplicity in mind and are very easy to set up and maintain, even if you have no prior experience with marine fish or reefkeeping.

Like all models in the range, the 130D is solidly-built and has a quality feel to the plastic, glass and cabinet.

All of the electrics – various water pumps, heaters and the power compact lighting – is neatly hidden away and runs from a series of waterproof switches. There’s also a timer to turn the lights on and off.

There’s plenty of flow (though you might want to increase this if you keep corals) and the skimmer is OK, if a little on the fiddly side to adjust.

The only real drawback with this model are the hood cooling fans which require annual replacement to keep them quiet and the need to keep the tank regularly topped up with RO water to prevent tiny bubbles appearing in the water.

Red Sea Max 250

The Red Sea Max 250 is the middle-sized model and it’s a better bet if you want a fancier tank or larger fish. It’s really just a scaled up version of the 250, and packs in an extra 120 litres of water into a footprint that’s not too much larger.

The Red Sea Max 250, like the other models, comes in silver, black and white and it’s a doddle to maintain and really easy to set up and get looking good.

This one in particular makes a great first tank for the fishkeeper who wants to get stuck into marines – and it’s much more upgradeable and future-proof than the smaller, more restricting 130 or 130D.

This model has a recommended retail price of £1599.99, but you can pick them up for £1299.99 or less from online retailer Swell UK at www.swelluk.com.

Red Sea Max 500

The Red Sea Max 500 is the latest addition to the range and was first shown off at the Interzoo trade show in Germany in 2010.

This model has not yet gone on sale, but if the design remains unchanged from the model exhibited at Interzoo it will hold 500 litres and be lit by a luminaire containing 10 54 watt T5 bulbs. Sadly, there don’t look like there will be any LEDs here…

Turnover is expected to be around 12,000 lph and the tank will include an integrated multi-chamber sump housing a Red Sea C-Skim protein skimmer and a 300w heater thermostat.

It’s expected to have a recommended retail price of around £3000 when it finally goes on sale.

While many people look only into the exclusive luxury Puerto Vallarta, more and more visitors have come to recognize the private beach club Punta Mita which brings directly to you the famous Punta Mita surf and Punta mita beach lifestyle. Private, secluded and exclusive, this area is fast becoming the place to be seen. If a club has a singular purpose, it is to enhance your well-being and create an environment that provides distance from the everyday stresses of life. Reserved exclusively for members and their guests, the Residents’ Beach Club presents a welcoming gathering place distinguished by beachfront locales, separate swimming pools for adults and children, dining facilities, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and other amenities that make a day or evening at the shore ever more inviting.

With regards to the surfing in Punta Mita, if you want high quality point surf and high quality reef breaks, then Nayarit is for you. The best thing about it is that it is not uncommon to have a break entirely to yourself. On numerous occasions I have surfed a quality break named Los Veneros (like Malibu, only shorter) all by myself and simply watched wave after wave peel along the reef go un-ridden. The real barrier to getting to the surf is access. Virtually all of the breaks require effort to get to, but this is why they are not crowded. Punta Mita has breaks that work on all swells. In my opinion, I like the summer months the best. You are guaranteed surf and no crowds. Yes, it is hot and will storm virtually every afternoon, but the excellent surf and lack of people make the weather more than worth it. From November until April, the weather is absolutely perfect (much better than Hawaii where it may rain) and the surf is too. Southwest, west and northwest swells consistently pound the coast.

Fish like the natural balance in their living quarters and like humans require a healthy diet to remain active, alert and disease free. Just as in our own lives this means a good variety of food is better than a constant stream of one source.

In the wild, fish have to search out food and as such will get a good mixture of diet. But in an aquarium environment, some compromises are necessary. However there are a number of different types of food that can be sourced that will give your fish a good all round diet. Aquatics worms, crustaceans and insect larvae, green plant matter, and algae are good additions to the several flake products that are around. You can also include granules for mid-water fish, and some algae wafers and pieces of cucumber or courgette for the bottom-dwellers.

You also need to know how much food to give your fish and how often you must feed them. You should feed your tropical fish at least daily, but only give them enough food to fill them as overfeeding can kill your tropical fish, either by digestive problems or by break-down of rotting food giving poor water quality. One rule of thumb is that you should give them enough food that can be eaten in 2 minutes, and do this 2 – 3 times a day – little and often is good. Not feeding them for one day every two weeks is also recommended.

If you go on holiday, fish can generally last a week without food before any harm comes to them, however two weeks is too long. This can be overcome best by getting a close friend to pop round every couple of days (but make sure the friend knows not to over feed) or to get one of the many autofeeders that releases food on a set timed basis.

Variety is the spice of life – to fish also – so a good wholesome variety will leave your fish much more healthy and active.

Scuba diving in Florida is an amazingly beautiful past time and there are means to make it exciting. Cave diving is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the beauty of scuba diving. Devil’s Den and Blue Grotto are two of the best cave diving spots in Florida. Devil’s Den is a giant sink hole near a town called Williston. This deep crevice holds a warm body of water that causes steam to rise out of it during winter, giving it its name.

This sixty foot deep hole in the earth is a beautiful place to go for a swim and is perfect for all kinds of divers. The water is ranged at approximately fifty feet and the maze like system of tunnels and caverns have been gated off because of the risks of getting lost. Not far from Devil’s Den is the Blue Grotto. It is a clear-water cavern that is the largest in the state. Any diver is welcomed to drop in and have a swim. Its maximum depth is approximately one hundred feet and has an incredible compressed air-supplied bell where you can remove your mask and regulator and relax for a while mid dive.

For more enjoyment, visit West Palm Beach, Florida. Here you can take a scuba diving trip down the Gulf Stream. This rapid current of water will allow you to observe the beauty of the underwater habitats of fishes and sea life in the ocean. It is here that you will be able to swim along side giant sea turtles and even watch safely as a shark swims past. This drift will, however, take you into the middle of the migration path of whales, as well as many other sea dwelling creatures.

About a mile off the coast of Venice Beach, you could also go scuba diving and look for amazing sharks teeth. Some of these have been there for centuries and many of them are larger then any sharks teeth you have ever seen. Next is reef diving which is also a lot of fun. The beautiful settings of coral reefs which serves as home to indigenous sea creatures, makes the dive worth while. There are two types of reefs in Florida, the natural reefs and the artificial reefs. Both are interesting and wonderful.

Off the coast of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area found an artificial reef formed using wreckage of many different kinds. In an attempt to restore and preserve the reefs of the area, an artificial reef program was launched. Dropping the ruins of retired tankers, oil rigs, air planes, and many other different things, the local marine scientists were able to mimic a reef for the marine life to make into homes. This beautiful and intriguing artificial reef stretches for miles.

There is also a natural living reef in the National Marine Sanctuary at Looe Key. It is a beautiful five and a half square-mile ecosystem and is similar of those found in the Bahamas and houses all kinds of coral and marine life. Scuba diving in Florida can provide so many different ways for seeing delightful natural surroundings while under the water. Plan your visit now and you surely won’t regret it.

With a compressed rounded body shape and gorgeous colors of green, red, brown and blue, (There are 4 ‘real’ discus variants, with their own Latin name. The rest of the color variants are captive bred and the list of these color variants is nearly endless. They have exotic names like, ‘White Diamond’, ‘Blue Diamond’ ‘Snake Skin’, etc… ) discus fish are among the most popular aquarium freshwater fish in the world. Native from the Amazon River, Wild caught discus fish first started to appeared in the 1920s, discus fish are spread all over the world being part of true industries in Asia, for instance. When they reach adulthood, discus fish are no bigger than eight to ten inches and they make great pets, bringing an excellent array of lively color to your house. Make sure you know everything about the needs of this fish breed before even thinking about keeping them, though discus fish are not very fragile, they still require a lot of care.

Discus fish make excellent aquarium inhabitants and they can be combined with other species in the habitat, the best choices would be the uaru or the tetras species. Normally discus fish are very serene creatures; they are a bit sensitive to stress and a disturbing environment but most fish are. However it is not too great an idea to combine them with fish that are quite a bit smaller, as the discus fish may eat them. It is also totally unadvisable to combine any variety of discus fish with catfish since you might find you just end up with fat catfish and no discus. Like all aquarium creatures, discus fish require optimal living conditions; otherwise they are exposed to disease and may die.

As the natural water temperature the discus fish are used to, is around 26-31 degrees Celsius ( 79 to 88 °F ), you will have to recreate and maintain very similar conditions. The hardness of the water ranges from 3 to 10° dGH. Additionally, in the wild, the environment discus fish live in is slightly acid, so make sure you adjust the pH values to such coordinates, between 5.5 and 6.5 the pH is completely friendly to your pets. If the discus fish were bred in captivity they may just as well adapt to higher pH values, but not during the mating season when you really have to provide optimal conditions.

Keep in mind that discus fish are very clean animals, and the water you put in their tank has to be really clean, without the any trace of pollution whatsoever. You need to use a high capacity filter to cycle the water constantly.

Canada is probably the best for fishing as it has almost 200,000 lakes with breathtaking scenery anyone could enjoy. The additional bonus of having a scenic mountain range, deep lakes, rivers, and huge rocks makes a trip to one of the Canadian destinations worthwhile.

Taking a trip to one of these Canadian destinations will be truly fulfilling with enough planning prior to the trip. Here are some helpful guidelines for your Canadian trip.

Determine what lake you want to fish

There are two major kinds of lakes: the conservation limit and catch and release lakes. Conservation limit lakes allow live fish baits such as worms or leeches. Furthermore, you can take home the fish you’ve caught with you. Meanwhile, catch and release lakes require you to use artificial baits such as twister tails. You also can’t take home fish.

Determine the fishing season at conservation lakes

Itching for specific fish to catch in conservation lakes? You have to determine the season of these fish first before you pick the time to go on a fishing trip. Northern Pike isn’t seasonal so you can find them all year round. The same with Bass. Trout are available from the first of January until the 30th of September. Walleye, on the other hand, are available on the third Saturday of May until April 15. Lastly, Muskies can be found on the third Saturday of June until November 30.

Booking a cabin

There are thousands of resort cabins waiting for you! You have to consider first the distance you’re willing to travel from your home to the destination. The best way to search for the best cabin is to research them and canvass prices if necessary by calling them. It would also be helpful to ask a friend to refer you to a good cabin.

Get your supplies ready

When you have booked a cabin, you just need your clothes, fishing gear, fishing license, and other personal items. Most cabins provide you with kitchen utensils and other necessary supplies found at home. You can also bring your own food and drinks.

Challenge yourself and enjoy!

Fishing for big fish such as northern pike or bass will be a challenge as these fish are fierce and aggressive. Practice and get your strategies going while you can as your fishing trip will be fulfilling if you get these prized fish!

And of course, who wouldn’t forget to enjoy? Canada, after all, is the best for fishermen. The bonus of the scenery will leave you gasping all throughout the trip. So don’t forget to enjoy while fishing!

Round hooks. These are the egg hooks and tuna circle hooks. The egg hook is a small short-shanked hook with a turned-out or turned-in eye almost exclusively used in river or lake fishing for trout using salmon egg as bait. Since salmon eggs bounce along the river bottom as they drift with the current, egg hooks are used so as not to impair this movement and impart an unnatural look to the bait eggs.

Buy the Award Winning ‘Esca Lures’ online at http://www.innovativefishingtackle.co.uk/

Tuna hooks are almost circular hooks with just holes in the shank-end for the eyes, and a curved-in point. Contrary to its name, these are not for tuna fishing but mostly used for deepwater bottom fishing. The circular configuration makes it difficult for the hooked fish to dislodge the hook once caught due to three barriers: the barb, the turned-in point and the shank end. Theoretically, circle hooks do not catch the fish in the gut or throat, but in the mouth, so that releasing them is easier.

Long shanked hooks. Mostly Limerick, Aberdeen and similar styles, are thin-wire hooks with long shanks and dark colors, from red to black. Some have small burrs at the back of the shank to hold the bait and may have turned-in or turned-out eye. Used primarily to catch soft-mouth fishes like river carp, but also effective for flounder and other flatfishes. This hook style is popular in Great Britain and European coarse fishing.

General purpose hooks. Exemplified by the round haddock, O’Shaughnessy and flatted hooks in their varied styles. Round haddock hooks have large eyes turned along the hook bend and point. Considered not as effective as others but almost perfect for multi-hook trolling flies, since the tinsel or fiber can be threaded through the large eye to hold them more securely. Still remains popular in many areas.

The O’Shaughnessy style is deemed the best all-purpose type, and many variations are available. This style has a small eye turned perpendicular to the bend and point, and with the shank bent a little forward. Variations include the baitholder, with the small points at the shank to hold the soft bait; and snelled hooks with turned-in or -out eyes, sold with short leaders already tied. Weedless hooks are those with a short piece of wire from the eye to the point, to ward off weeds and other water debris from lodging in the hook bend or point. Weedless hooks are mostly used in fishing water with thick vegetation, either with bait or as flyhook. Many hooks can be rigged weedless, though.

On the other hand, the flatted hooks have flat shank ends instead of eyes, the flat part to bar the snell knot from pulling out of the hook. Snelled flattened hooks are popular to light long-liner fishermen, but not to sportfishermen because the thin flattened end breaks rather easily. Also the flat end hurts one’s finger when removing the hook from the fish.

Multi-hooks. A tandem hook is a hook with a smaller no-eye one welded into it. It is used as stinger hook: attached to the main hook with a short leader, then the tandem’s smaller hook is pushed into the tail part of the (usually live) bait to catch wary fishes that attack only the rear part of the bait.

Trebles are three hooks welded into one, commonly used in lures, from crankbaits through trolling lures to diamond jigs. A treble hook is usually attached to the lure via a split ring to give it free play, although some use hook eyes. Trebles can be effective also in certain fly designs, especially those that are made to resemble octopuses or squids.

Special design hooks. These are the keel hooks, jig, Kahle, and offset hooks. Keel (worm) hooks, those with shanks double-bent just below the eye so the point will ride upward, used primarily for saltwater flies and for soft-plastic worms in freshwater fishing. Jig hooks are bent in 90 degrees or so just below the eye which then makes the point to ride up. The lead weight is molded around the shank bend, making the jig virtually weedless.

A Kahle hook has a severe bend in the shank and is largely used for live bait – crawfish, baitfish and shrimp- as well as stink baits. The Skip Gap Worm hook is bent a few times at the shank near the eye to better hold plastic baits such as worms, grubs and newts. The bait is flipped under wood piers and docks or around weeds so a good hold is imperative.

Of a unique style is the offset hooks, which have points bent either left or right (kirbed or reversed). The offset point is believed to hook faster and surer, since the point will bite any way the hook is mouthed by the fish.

Buy the Award Winning ‘Esca Lures’ online at http://www.innovativefishingtackle.co.uk/

Actually, there are more hook designs than hook-and-line fishing styles, so the angler is faced with some difficulty in selecting his hooks. Added to that is the fact that many hooks designs can serve purposes other than those it was developed for, if with lessened effectiveness. Therefore, one must carefully consider the fishing he is to do to determine the hook he should have, in order to make the best out of his activity.

For the complete novice, who may not quite be cut out for this Deep Sea Fishing, there are the inshore services of Hampton Bay charters, which will just take you offshore for about two miles for a trip lasting about two or three hours. Here, try catching some flounder, some small mackerel, perch, as well as other inshore specimens. The cost of this will of course be less expensive, an attractive choice for those who want a taster, unsure of their interest in Deep Sea Fishing and those who are afraid of the sea or deeper Swaters, and especially if you think you may get sea sickness.

For the warmer weather of Spring and Summer, you could be more adventurous and feel like trying an extended trip in the bay. The fish are out in force in the waters, so the charter services in Hampton Bay can offer you a marathon trip of 12 hours, going much farther out to sea, to get the true feel and experience that you expect from Deep Sea Fishing.

Anglers out on Hampton Bay target the abundance of cod that is found largely in this area. You can also find bluefish, cusk, haddock, hake, mackerel, pollock that are most common in these waters. With such an array of fishing options in Hampton Bay, and a vast variety to choose from, you will get a fair idea of what it is to go Deep Sea Fishing.

Found in the western Caribbean ocean and south of the Yucatan peninsula, you will come across the small Central American country of Belize. Home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, an adventure to see the hundreds of different types of coral, sponges and other marine life from the dozens coral atolls or cayes as they are termed is to be experienced when scuba diving in Belize.

Divers, whether a beginner or experienced, will find everything they need available at the many dive shops or resorts to make their diving adventure great one for the log book.

If this is your first scuba diving experience, you can sign up for classes at one of the many dive shops or dive resorts. Scope of the classes vary between basic scuba breathing in shallow water, open water certification or advanced certifications. All scuba diving in Belize is performed under the supervision of the Belize regulated dive masters.

For those who have completed their classroom work and basic scuba instruction, but have not completed the final exam, check out dives and certifications are available. To make certain you bring all of the required paperwork from your stateside instructor, it is a good idea to call ahead to the dive shop.

Leading you to many of the popular diving locations in the lap of luxury,
several dive operators offer Live-Aboard diving boats. Room, meals and air all just a few feet away from your room are counted in the all inclusive rates. Better to have book well in advance as these boats are quite popular.

Popular diving areas known as the Hol-Chan Marine Reserve and Shark-Ray Alley are found on the southern end of Ambergris Caye and a short boat ride from San Pedro. Each with its own exceptional habitat and bio-diversity, this protected area is divided into 4 zones. Coral reefs, mangroves and sea grass beds make up the different segments of the reserve. For night diving sites, Hol-Chan is among the best.

Upon reaching at Shark Ray Alley, expect some company. It’s been sometime that the local fishermen have been cleaning their catches here so the sharks and rays will appear near your boat waiting for a free lunch.

The famous Great Blue Hole is another popular diving spot located on Lighthouse Reef, a day trip east of Turneffe Reef. Discovered and filmed by Jacques Cousteau in the early 1970′s, it is more than 400 feet deep and 1000 feet across. Experienced diver is offered a chance to go deep in the Blue Hole, while exploring the corals and stalactites that were shaped when the sea levels were much lower.

Scuba diving in Belize is distinct from other areas in the Caribbean as the water temperature only varies between the mid 70s to the mid 80s year-round. Water visibility alters upon location but you can assume to have 50 foot or better viewing with 100 foot visibility not uncommon in some areas. During the summer months, water clarity will be less in the rainy season.

Chase the rays, swim with the Whale Sharks, feed the groupers or relax in the shallow mangrove cayes beside the manatees. Going scuba diving in Belize has something to offer all divers regardless of experience. Make early bookings now and arrange your schedule for such a wonderful diving adventure.

Has it ever crossed your mind that you might be able to spend your whole vacation deep sea fishing, rather than just a few days or hours? Well, most middle grade anglers might not wish to do this or find the prospect too exciting, but ardent fishing enthusiasts would be thrilled at such a possibility. You must wonder where you could find such an opportunity and spend your whole vacation out at sea with deep sea fishing. There are many deep sea fishing opportunities where you will be able to spend a whole vacation out at sea, and can be arranged for you.

1. Where you could find a vacation of deep sea fishing
In Florida, there are many such locations off the Gulf of Mexico, where you could find opportunities of a deep sea fishing vacation. You could find several charters starting at Ft. Myers or in Sanibel, Cape Coral or Estero Bay. If you want a thrilling experience you could take a trip from what is called “the sport fishing capital of the world” or Florida keys. As this is located between the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf the most unusual species of fish in the world are found here. The most common fish that are found here are the snapper and grouper, however, the tuna, redfish, and many other large varieties of fish are found in the ledges, the reefs, and off the coast wrecks. The deeper and further you go into the waters, the more variety of marine life will you find and the species will be bigger than those which are found in shallow waters closer to the shore.

2. Still more vacations packages are offered in California
Deep sea fishing trips for vacations are obtainable from California and more so Southwards from San Diego. These vacation tips and organized tours are available for as long as three weeks at a stretch, instead of the usual shorter duration trips. As you go further into the sea, you get the larger varieties of fish. During you three week trip and mile into the sea you will not be looking at the mackerel to bait, but would be luring the tuna, shark, marlin and swordfish.

3. Exotic deep sea fishing from the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico
You also have the choice of starting from ports in Mexico which cater to tourist attraction and go out to the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. You will find crew who can converse in English on your fishing excursion from Cozumel, Cancun, or Ixtapa and towards the open seas. Another option is from Cabo San Lucas on the west coast towards southern California in the Pacific Ocean or from Acapulco or maybe Mazatlan.

It does not matter where you commence your long deep sea fishing vacation trip from because it will be an exciting and a very fulfilling experience from any where. This will be a relaxing and de stressing trip away from the madding crowds and with experiences of a life time to come back and narrate to everyone.

Ever considered setting up a tropical fish tank? Millions around the globe enjoy having exotic fish keeping as a relaxing, and enjoyable hobby. Here’s some tips to get you going regarding needed equipment, fish, and more.

It’s not difficult at all to create an exotic fish tank but of course, only if you know what you are doing. If you have not done this previously, it might seem somewhat intimidating. Most who are not used to setting up tanks get started with freshwater tanks, as salt water aquariums are typically much more delicate and require more work. When searching equipment for your saltwater aquarium, consider supplies such as gravel, plants, stones, and other tank furnishings as well as equipment like water filtration systems, heaters, and thermometers.

As a base for your aquarium, there are 2 things you may go for: gravel and sand. But what you must know is that sand takes a bit longer to settle than gravel dust, which makes the latter more popular than the previous one. Another great part of using gravel as your tank’s base is that it is available in a diverse selection of colors, shapes, dimensions, and materials, helping you to create astonishing tropical paradises or go wild with your personal preference in colours and textures Also not to be ignored is the fact that both gravel and sand are important for grounding vegetation, stones, and other arrangements.

Another necessary aspect of setting up a tropical fish aquarium is the plants you’ll want to use. Many people love live plants because of their natural appearance and the natural boost of oxygen they lend to the tank. Still, as organic vegetation are sometimes nibbled on by herbivorous fish, others opt for artifical plants. Likewise, keep in mind that organic plants can bring in parasites to your aquarium, particularly as snails lay eggs on the undersides of them. If you ever notice thousands of little snails consuming your organic vegetation (with or without bothering the fish), then that is a sign that the aquarium has been infested. Other than finding this occurring, there’s little chance that you know that your aquarium has been infested.

But how should you deal with timid and nocturnal fish? There’s a lot of people who choose such species and maintaining the fish healthy and joyful do takes a unique set up of the tank. Well, here’s where stones, timber hunks and other big arrangements come into play with their important role of providing hiding places as well as sleeping spots for the fish. As simple as this step of adding stones to your tank may look like, as important it is in minimizing the stress and encouraging happy fish. Such instruments also make stunning decorations.

And finally, the filters, heaters and other additional equipment. this is all necessary stuff for controlling the water purity and temperature. 2 essential things to keep in mind regarding water filtering and temperature are these: the tank has to be stored at a climate of 77 degrees Fahrenheit, unless specified otherwise, and the water filter must be looked at frequently between cleanings, as it can quickly become clogged.

These are only a few tips when it comes to setting up an exotic fish tank. In following this advice, soon you’ll have the best setting for your new fish to dwell in.

Sea anemone belongs to the group of water dwelling. It is closely related to Hydra, tube dwelling anemones, and corals. It spends most of the time at one place but some have ability to move. They attach their body to the rocks. Some of them bury themselves in the mud. Its predators are sea stars, snails, fish and nudibranchs. There are about thousand different types of sea anemone found in throughout the oceans.

Anemones which can move have ability to move only for three to four inches daily. It eats small fish and shrimp. It captures its prey with its deadly stinging tentacles known as nematocysts. They catch their food using the tentacles. These tentacles are located on the top of its body. It is mainly found in many different habitats i.e. in the low currents and high currents.

It is considered as the flower of the deep sea. It looks like plants. They are actually meat eating animals. They are of different sizes and colors. The color range of anemone is from white or pale yellow to red. The internal anatomy of this sea animal is complex. The mouth of the anemone opens up into a flattened pharynx. Its mouth is slit and it bears a grove at either one or two ends.

It runs for about two thirds of the length of the body before opening into the gastro vascular cavity. The gastro vascular cavity functions as the stomach for anemone. It has a single opening to the outside which has dual function of the mouth and anus. The undigested matter is excreted through it.

The diet of sea anemones includes Deep Sea Fish, plankton, amphipods, isopods and shrimp. There are available in varying sizes ranging from five centimeters to seventeen centimeters. The different types of sea anemone are zoanthid, white plumed, giant green, aggregated, strawberry, tube, painted, sand rose and white spotted rose.

It has also been found out that pieces of sea anemones can turn into new sea anemones. There are separate sexes in sea anemones. Some species are hermaphrodites. Reproduction can take place sexually or asexually. They reproduce asexually, by pedal laceration, budding and binary fission.

Some anemones have symbiotic relationship with some hermit crabs. However, the sexual reproduction takes place when the male releases a sperm. It also stimulates the female to release eggs. These eggs or sperms are released through mouth. Once this process is done, then fertilization occurs.

This is done when either the crab gets attached to the anemone or they themselves attach to the hermit crab. Majority of the species inhabit tropical reefs. There are some species that are well adapted to the intertidal reefs, sand and cold waters.

There are many theories which show that this relationship is beneficial for the hermit crab and anemone. It provides protection from the stinging cells of some anemones which can be quite potent. It is also beneficial for the anemone because it can eat from the food which the crab did not eat.

These days there’s a hook pattern for every aspect of saltwater fishing, from fine wire fish hooks for delicate baits, through to forged fish hooks for big-game fishing and the improbable looking circle hook.

Buy our award winning fishing lures at www.escalure.co.uk .

These fishing lures are guaranteed to improve your catch rate success

Hook Sizes

The smallest hook you’re likely to need for saltwater fishing is a size 12 which is no bigger than the nail on your little finger, and that would be baited with a pinch of bread flake to tempt the mullet cruising around in harbours and estuaries. The system of grading hooks according the size isn’t entirely straightforward. Starting with the size 12 mentioned above, the sizing system dictates that as the hooks get larger, the numbers get smaller and only even numbers are used – 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 to 1.

Size 1 is still a small hook by saltwater fishing standards – suitable only for the smallest flatfish and their sprat-sized brethren. But going larger from here the system changes. The next size up is a 1/0, increasing in size through 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0, 8/0, 9/0, 10/0, 11/0 to a massive 12/0 shark hook.

Selecting the right size hook to use is a matter of matching it to the size of the bait you intend to impale upon it, and the size of the fish’s mouth you hope will enclose it. Remember that whilst you can catch both big and small fish on a small hook, you can’t catch a small fish on a big hook – which might result in catching nothing at all.

Single, Double or Treble Fish Hooks?

The hook size method described above holds true for double and treble hooks. For example a size 2/0 treble hook is three size 2/0 singles brazed together sharing a single eye, and a 4/0 double is two 4/0 singles brazed together. Singles are used for most baits, sometimes long-shank versions in tandem (the Pennell Rig) for long baits like marine worms or whole squid, and broad-gape designs for bulky crab baits and the like. Double and treble hooks are used mainly on lures, or live-bait rigs. A treble hook is also often used as the trailing hook on a stinger rig.

J Hook, or C Hook?

We’re all familiar with the traditional J Hook – it’s quite clear how that works – but the C (circle) hook? What’s that all about?

The main feature of circle hooks is their inward-angled point, which gives the impression that they’re unlikely to hook-up with anything at all.

And that’s partly the intention. There’s nothing worse than gut-hooking a fish. Not only does it cause the fish a deal of unnecessary suffering, but you’ll not be able to recover the hook without killing the fish. But these hooks solve this problem.

If a fish swallows the bait completely, even taking the hook right down into its stomach, any tension on the line will pull it back up into the fish’s mouth, the inward point failing to catch on any internal part of the fish on the way.

But when the direction of pull changes as the hook is drawn into the fish’s mouth, the hook will secure a firm hold in the hinge of the jaw, from where it can be easily removed.

This makes circle hooks the hooks of choice for ‘catch and release’ sport fishermen – and ideal for use with the drop-back trolling technique.

Plain Carbon Steel or Stainless Steel Fish Hooks?

Fish hooks are made in either plain carbon steel, which corrodes in seawater, or stainless steel which doesn’t.

As a result plain carbon steel fish hooks need to be sharpened more often than stainless ones, and must be rinsed in freshwater and dried at the end of each trip to prevent them rusting.

However, many saltwater fishermen believe that plain steel hooks are more humane than stainless fish hooks since any fish that escapes with one inside will soon get shot of it when the hook corrodes – a process rapidly accelerated by digestive juices.

So, angler’s convenience – or fish’s well-being? It’s your call.

Barbless Hooks?

These haven’t caught on for saltwater fishing like they have for freshwater fishing, but that may change.

It used to be that pretty much anything we caught was destined for the pot – or the cat – so any damage done by the hook wasn’t much of a issue. But these days, with conservation of our diminishing fish stocks a real concern for most of us, catch-and-release is fast becoming the norm.

But if there’s one time when you’ll really wish you’d been using a barbless hook, it’s when you’ve managed to get one embedded in your finger, or some other sensitive body part – and I know!

Fishing Hooks

Looking for the best quality fishing hook. Here are the features to look for when buying a quality fishing tackle. First, identify the species of fish that you are targeting and the type of bait you will be using to target that species. Once you have made the determination, it will help you identify certain parameters in which to choose the correct type. For this article lets just say the target species is a Tuna, 30 pound grade. Most likely here is Southern California you will be using live sardine. Hook size is always relative to the size of the bait and the size of the mouth of the targeted species. Now that we know that a size 3/0 or 4/0 is what we will be using, the angler should think about whether or not they prefer ringed hooks. Ringed hooks allow the hook to twist without twisting and putting added stress on your fishing line. This is a critical feature when fly lining live bait fish like sardine.

Now that we have decided on a size and type we should now think about choosing a style. Traditional J Hooks or Circle hooks. Circle hooks allow the angler to simply reel down on the fish first to set the hook while also allowing for a quality corner of the mouth hook set. These types are also popular because they are rarely swallowed by fish which allows for a safer release. J hooks on the other hand, allow for a more solid strike from the angler when the fish bites. This striking action is what sets the hook when fishing with traditional style J. Many anglers like the excitement these traditional types provide, although not always as efficient in landing the fish. This should be enough info to get you started in making a decision when shopping for fishing tackle.

Fish Hooks Made of Carbon Nano Tubes Make Sense

Fishhooks made out of stainless steel, and other metals are okay, but perhaps we should make fishhooks out of carbon nano-tube construction. There are many advantages to this, and in the future they will cost less as the manufacturing processes of these materials becomes more feasible. Currently that isn’t the case, but in five years it nearly should be. Likewise, the fishing poles should probably also be made out of carbon nanotubes since they could be 50 times stronger than steel, and they can be just as flexible as current day fishing poles.

Fish hooks that are ultra-strong make a lot of sense, and they can also be very small meaning they could be set in series where many hooks become one, and they would still be lighter, and somewhat translucent. The fish would not even see they were there, the fish hook would not give itself away, all they’d see was the bait floating in the water. Right now, online I can’t find any such fishhooks made out of these materials, although there are a number of carbon composite fishing poles.

Taking all of this to the next level makes sense, just as it does using space-age materials for golfing. Now then, not everyone is interested in high-tech fishing gear, some people are purists, and that is to say they like using the traditional methods. Nevertheless, if you are serious about fishing, surely you’d want to be one of the first adopters of fishhooks made of these materials. At first, it will probably be considered a novelty to have such high tech space-age materials being used, but as the price comes down and the performance being what it could be, it will eventually become the new norm.

Indeed, I did note online there are a few folks who have filed patterns using such materials for fishhooks, fishing lines, reels, and fishing poles. If you’d like to discuss this in greater detail, I have some thoughts on this issue I’d like to share with you, a couple of design concepts as well. Go ahead and shoot me an e-mail, maybe we should compare notes. Please consider all this and think on it.

A Beginners Guide to Fishing Hooks

Fishing is one of the most loved pass times by a massive amount of people across the globe. A lot of people have also involved themselves in the art of fishing in order to make a living. And for doing so, numerous sorts of tools are used, such as hooks, nets, boats, etc.

In this article we will learn about hooks and their types, characteristics and functions.

Fishing hooks are tools which are used for catching fish. Like the name “hook,” itself suggests, the tool is shaped like a hook and it contains a barbed edge which captures the fish and disables it to wriggle its way out of the hook. A hook is divided into various parts, such as:

1. The eye. This is a base ensnare, a point at which the hook is joined with a line.

2. The Shank. This is significantly the straight portion of a hook that is joined to the eye (though designs vary and it always does not have to be straight).

3. Bend.

4. Point.

5. The barb.

Fish hooks have been used since thousands and thousands of years. According to records, history suggests people used fish hooks even back in 7000BC. And through time, the materials and elements in the developments of hooks have changed. Wood, stone, bones, shells, bronze, iron and other sorts of materials were used in the production of hooks; and it is a fact that people still use non metallic hooks in some parts of the globe today. Hooks which were made by using steel first appeared and then significantly grew popular for professional use after the sixteenth century.

What are Treble hooks?

We get three different types of hooks in the market, which are: The “single” hook (basic type), “double hook, (this sort of hooks has one eye but a couple of conjoining shanks)”.

Treble hooks are essentially used while fly-fishing. A treble hook is known to be “fully clad” in colored feathers in order to simulate lures or insects. One of the most noticeable functions of a treble hook is its total grip at the fish’s mouth. People also use treble hooks while lure-fishing where the treble hooks are fixed on a lure that conjures up the prey of the catch intended.

Lures are available in numerous types such as bobbed – These give the illusion of swimming upside and downwards, whereas some sorts of lures are designed to go all the way down to the floor and collide with the sand in order to give the fish the illusion of activity. However, irrespective of what sort of lure you use, it is best advised to use a treble hook in order to ensure that the fish does not escape you.

The only disadvantage of a treble hook may be the fact that it damages the fish you capture, to some extent. Therefore, just in case you fish for sport or fun and that you intend to let go of the fish after capturing it… then it is not advisable to use a treble hook. Because the fish struggles once it is captured and in consequence, its mouth is bound to be damaged significantly. However, if you want to capture a fish – Using a treble hook gets your job done.

Gang Hooks Simply Catch More Fish

For those of you who have never heard of the term “gang-hooks”, it’s probably time for you to take a closer look. A set of gang hooks is fairly simple to tie yourself, or you can buy them, the choice is yours. What’s important is that you begin using them for all of your live bait fishing. A set of gang hooks is, by far, the most natural way to present a worm.

Gang hooks are simply two small hooks tied in tandem. Hooks that are probably much smaller than you may be accustomed to. I personally prefer size 10 hooks. My preference is 2 size 10 hooks tied on four pound test. And I catch BIG fish with a setup that’s this size. I consistently catch Smallmouth Bass up and Rainbow Trout up to five or six pounds on gang hooks setups exactly that size.

The only downfall to a gang hook setup is that some state regulations don’t allow them. So check your state regulations before fishing with gang hooks. I know from experience that in Montana and Pennsylvania gang hooks are perfectly legal. Check your local regulations before using them though, just to be safe.

So how do you get a hold of gang hooks? There are two ways. First you can do a little research on knots, and tie them yourself. His is obviously the most inexpensive way. Research the “Snell knot”. The other way to get a hold of gang hooks is to just buy them. Go somewhere like JRWfishing and you’ll be good to go. My theory has always been, that you can make a hamburger yourself to save money or you can just go to McDonald’s and pick one up. The choice is yours.

The bottom line is that if you begin employing a set of pre-tied gang hooks into your live bait fishing, you’ll simply catch more fish. The natural presentation that gang hooks provide can’t be beat. The days of the “worm ball” and threading a worm onto a hook are gone the moment you begin using gang hooks. With gang hooks, you simply hook the head on the worm into the top hook, the hook the second hook into the worms’ body. Now your worm is rigged and looks exactly like it would if there were no hooks at all. It’s a beautiful thing. Give gang hooks a shot, I promise that you won’t be disappointed.

If you had the chance to explore all saltwater and freshwater fish, it would take you thousands of years. Therefore, if you are just starting in fish care and aquariums you want to learn minimal details on starter fish. Everyone has their own notion as to which fish are best for starters, therefore my goal is to inform you, rather than instruct on starter fish. Still, I will provide you helpful information that you can use to sort through aggressive and passive fish. The passive, peaceful, and easy to maintain fish are in my opinion the best fish for starters. Now we start with the Symphysodon aequifasciata and s. discus fish, which is known as the Discus Fish. The name alone would make the common starter take a run for a name they could pronounce, yet the fish name is a scare, which denounces the fish’s identity. This fancy fish is brilliantly colored in aqua green with a brownish tint that offsets his eyes, small mouth, and black marked body. The Discus is one of the tropical fish that lives in freshwater. Discuss prefers water temperatures set at 82 degrees and no higher than 88 degrees Fahrenheit. The pH level should set at 6.0 and not beyond 6.5. Density: 3 to 5 degrees:

The Discus is slow feeders that tend to reside by themselves. The fish will live in communal tank water, yet they will find their own corners to hang. Some of the recommended fish to share space with the Discus is the smaller and peaceful Corydoras catfish, cardinal tetras, and the Rasbora. Few of the Discus fish are decorated in bright cyan red and turquoise, which makes the fish appealing to tank water. Before you purchase discus breeds, take care to review the health of these fish. It is next to impossible to save an ill discus’s life.

Discus has a shy nature. The peaceful fish enjoys slowness, and is finicky when dining. The foodstuff desired includes, live bait, frozen foods, beef heart shredded, Tubifex, etc. You want to avoid Tubifex although the fish enjoy the meal well, since these fish are prone to disease. You can feed the pet Tubifex, yet it is advised that you wash the foodstuff carefully.

If you want to feed a fancier fish, then checkout the Bettas, Gouramies and the Fighting Siamese Fish. The fish spread out in the waters of Asia and live well in aquariums. The fancy fish including the Siamese Fighting Fish, Fighting Cocks, and the Strains are popular fish that has been spotted on live sporting events. The fish are commonly exploited in Thailand’s’ land. The fish enjoy battling. Most of the fish available have a variety of colors to select from, including the beautiful shimmering red fish, blue fish, bicolor fish, and so on. Albinos are available as well.

In all fish are summed up as saltwater (Marine) fish or freshwater (Non-Marine) fish. The Freshwater fish include tropical fish and the coldwater fish. The tropical is more desirable for starters in fish care and aquarium keep. At pet stores, online, etc, you will find a wide array of tropical, saltwater, and coldwater fish.

Keep in mind that Marine fish are more prone to saltwater, since the fish come from salty marine waters, such as the seas, oceans, etc. Freshwater fish tend to come from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, and so on. Having an idea of what type of water the fish dwells in can give you a running start to figuring out what type of water is best suited for your fish. Still, most pet stores provide instructions, which you should read carefully in your fish care expedition. Don’t forget the filtration systems.

Aquariums add delight and freshness to the people’s homes and businesses all around the world. Aquariums are included in restaurants specially to attract kids and customers who come and dine there, fish tanks are included in many more places like malls, hotels and houses. People have a habit of having aquarium like a kind of hobby. Since, it adds beauty to the place.

The aquarium can be designed in such a way that it can be of any shapes like rectangle, square and also spherical. The aquarium can be decorated by using small color pebbles and small plastic plants to make the environment more realistic and a nicer environment for the fish.

Aquariums make perfect gifts for family and friends, the relaxing movement of the fish and water is an ideal stress reliever from our busy lives. Some fish, such as the betta fish have been kept in very small glass bottles, however without proper filtration the fish will often not survive. Filtration should be a key consideration for anyone looking at the different types of aquariums. Most smaller aquariums (under 100L (25 US Gallons) will include a small mechanical filter. Often these filters are not sufficient for a fully stocked aquariums. Ideally, an aquarium filter system should include biological, mechanical and chemical filtration.

When choosing the aquarium, the other thing to be kept in mind is the choice of fish. Decide upfront if you want to keep goldfish, tropical fish or marine fish as this will help narrow down the choice of what fish tank to buy. Alternatively look for an aquarium which allows easy upgrading from coldwater to tropical and then ultimately marine fish.

Goldfish, cloud white mountain minnows, black molly, guppies, betta fighter fish, and tetra fish are some kind of fishes which are suitable for most aquariums and will make a fascinating and colorful display. The betta fighter fish can attack other fish, especially of the same type, so if you choose this fish make sure you keep it on its own in aquarium around 15L (4 US Gallons).

The aquarium should be taken care by changing the water regularly. Some aquariums require more frequent water changes than others. For example many aquariums require weekly water changes, however some aquariums, which have advanced filtration system can dramatically reduce the amount of maintenance needed, so it is often worth spending a little extra on a better aquarium in the long run.

Choice of fish food is extremely important; always buy a high quality food in a pellet form. Brine shrimp or frozen food are often poor in nutritional value and will not benefit the fish. Flake foods can rot in the aquarium, so an aquarium pellet fish food which has the correct protein levels and won’t rot will ensure the water quality in the aquarium remains high and will help ensure healthy fish.

There are many varieties of aquariums in all shapes and sizes. However, the most important elements to consider are, low maintenance (you don’t want to have to clean it every week) and a powerful filter which offers biological, mechanical and chemical filtration to keep the water healthy for the fish.

Saltwater Reef Aquariums, Establishing Live Rocks in an Aquarium

Aquariums are beautiful in their own right, particularly ones which are large enough to make the viewer feel as though they have been transported into an underwater wonderland. For many individuals the inside of a clear glass aquarium is as close as they will ever come to the wonders of the world beneath the ocean’s surface, and for that reason an aquarium which is as close to the natural habitat of its inhabitants as possible is a joy unto itself.

Live rocks, rocks which are covered with both micro- and macroorganisms which help to digest the waste produced by the fish, are a vital part of every natural ecosystem. For that reason it makes sense that they would be an important part of an aquarium environment as well. It is not as simple as dropping a rock into an aquarium and allowing all manner of things to grow on it, however. There is a process that must be followed to ensure optimal benefits for both the large aquarium and the live rock.

It is very simple to cure live rock before placing it in the aquarium, but this is an important step that must be taken in order to prevent a build up of ammonia in the tank which could negatively affect the fish. To cure live rock first select a plastic container that is of a suitable size to hold the amount of live rock which you are working with, then fill it with saltwater. Then place a heater and water pump in the “tank” for optimal temperature and circulation. Once the water has reached the desired temperature remove the heater and pump and half of the water content, then preclean the rock in a bucket of saltwater by swishing it around to remove any lose organisms and debris and place it in the prepared water. Then reinstall the heater and pump and allow nature to do its thing!

The process is done when an ammonia reading of the water in which the rock resides is at zero and it is no longer giving off an unpleasant odor. At this time it is safe to place the rock in your aquarium and allow Mother Nature’s perfect filtering system to work for you. Saltwater Reef Aquariums
